Give me the unabridged version of the course's teachings-
Mindset- I discuss the science of documentary wedding photography in its correct context—candid, unposed storytelling in its true form. The feel of the photos reflect this mood of natural human emotion and interaction that you cannot orchestrate with the same results. Providing tools to develop this mindset is a key offering of this course, and executing documentary photography.
Methodology- Once the fundamentals are covered, I walk you through a wedding day, and how I approach the various parts of the day. Technical aspects of photography itself, and the inherent non-intrusive presence are also covered. Camera and lens talk is always needed—though some of it may surprise you.
Website, branding, and portfolio content- The science of website functionality and portfolio selection is an important part of the discussion. I share pertinent information about the purpose of a website, and show how my website and systems are set up. If set up correctly, your website should do the initial step of culling—attracting the right couples, and putting off couples with other expectations. We discuss how to use your unique personality / signature style to make this approach work and reach your audience.
-Science behind client offerings / creating packages- The documentary approach can change how these offerings are put together and how time is allocated. The psychology and science of building pricing / collection offerings are part of what I teach. Do you also want to know how to effectively use presentation materials and build efficient systems? That's part of the service.
-Finding the right clients, consultations, and dealing with opposition- This offering does narrow the client base. It’s a hard pill to swallow that you are not for everyone. BUT, that is a good thing. There are already too many photographers, and many with no identity. You are better off working with those who truly love what you offer, both in terms of photos and the experience that comes with hiring you. How you present, how you conduct yourself, and brand effectiveness all plays an important part. Qualification is a two-way street. Also, with many hands in the pot, who do you really work for? How do you professionally set boundaries? That’s covered too.
Consultation and post course open Q&A- First step is a screen recording of me addressing your portfolio and website. Remaining questions / discussion can be through email, video chat, or phone call- Or if you are local, maybe a Sunday afternoon cookout / shop talk session! It depends on how you like your information documented. We will talk about what’s on your mind and where you are at / your specific goals. Keep in touch with me afterwards to show me your progress.
